Women’s Bowel Control

WOMEN’S BOWEL CONTROL CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

Perhaps the one “control” problem that is even more embarrassing to discuss than bladder control is bowel control. Also known as fecal incontinence (FI), bowel control problems are estimated to affect 1 in 3 ambulatory women and as many as 2 in 3 patients in long term care facilities.

Bladder Control Center of ExcellenceFecal incontinence means the involuntary loss of solid stool, liquid stool or mucus from the rectum. This can be a small amount or large amount, depending upon the severity of the problem. It is a problem that increases with age. Women have a slightly higher incidence of FI than men.

Realizing that many women are not comfortable discussing bowel or urinary problems with a man (Dr. Robert Pugach), and would prefer to be examined by a woman, we are pleased to tell you that Evans Tran, our highly skilled and credentialed female physician assistant, has made bladder and bowel control for women her special interest. Our team approach at this Center of Excellence means that she and Dr. Pugach discuss every case together and they will explain diagnostic and treatment options fully with you. You always have a choice – you can see Evans Tran, PA or Dr. Pugach, depending upon your preference.
